- Achieving a successful healthy diet and loosing weight can be as simple as following these basic healthy eating principles and suggestions.

- Eat wholesome unprocessed foods. They help you to feel full longer. Convenience foods and highly packaged and processed foods are often loaded with fats, refined carbohydrates and salt. Read why here
- Cut out sugary drinks
- Don’t be overly restrictive - everything in moderation. Treat yourself occasionally
- Don’t skip meals, its best to eat at each meal time to maintain your energy and activity levels
- Eat slowly and deliberately, savour every slow spoonful and recognise when you are full. Many people wolf their meals down and don’t give their body chance to tell them its not hungry any more.
- Control portion size. Don’t pile you plate up just because you can.
- Don’t finish the entire plate if you don’t feel hungry any more.
- Drink lots of water. 8-10 glasses a day. It has no calories, can help you to feel a bit more full, take the edge of cravings and if you drink chilled water it can speed up you metabolism a little and burn calories
- Certain foods can speed up you metabolism a little resulting in burning more calories. Chilli is one example.
- Eat to live, don’t live to eat. Food is a pleasure to eat its true, but its important to see it as a means to maintain a healthy active life. So get out and have some fun. Join the gym or take up a new hobby.
- Plan ahead and take control of what you eat. Plan your meals, packed lunches and shopping. How often when you go out do you resort to fast food because there’s nothing else really available, or end up going out for a take away because there’s nothing in the cupboard? A diet plan could help you.
- Exercise. It burns calories, lifts the mood and helps you to respond better to stress.
